The twentieth century was the most eventful and significant century in the history of human civilization. In this century we experienced the two dreadful bloody World Wars, devastation by atom bombs, the mortifying spread of AIDS, the rise, and fall of communism in the Soviet Union, and found that mankind could reach solar space and conquer the moon. Gradually. A man enters into science and technology. Today’s information technology is the commutative aspect of research and innovations in science. Information technology is a rapidly changing factor. Developments in communication technology and many innovations in transportation technology occurred in the latter part of the last century. The development of jet aircraft and the introduction of containerization simplify transshipment from one place to another. The advent of commercial jets has reduced the time to travel from one place to another and shrunk the global distance.
Prospects of IT knowledge :
The most important innovation has been the development of the microprocessor, which enables the explosive growth of high power. Low-cost computing. The microprocessor also underlines many recent advances in telecommunication technologies. Over the last 35 years, global communications have been revolutionized by
development in satellite, optical fiber, wireless technologies, and now the Internet and the World Wide Web. These technologies depend on the microprocessor to encode, transmit and decode the vast amount of data that flows along these electronic highways. Bangladesh has a bright prospect for exporting software. According to Dr. Younus, the founder of Grameen Bank, by 2015 we can get 15 billion dollars by exporting software. With the permission of the government, non-government organizations also can manufacture and export this software. Our neighboring country India is enormously prospering with the help of Information Technology. Now, India, Singapore, Sri Lanka, and Pakistan are having the advantage of Intercontinental Fiber Optic Cable leading to the United States. Both India and Pakistan have High-Speed Fiber Optic backbone which is linked up with Intercontinental Information Superhighway. As a result, in these countries website industries can be set up easily. IT education has opened up a new frontier for the unemployed youths of Bangladesh. Bangladesh has an advantage in the IT industry. It has numerous educated unemployed youths with the ability to read and write English. They can be trained in the required skill in data processing services within a short time. A few Bangladeshi skilled professionals working abroad can be encouraged to return to the country and collaborate with Bangladeshi entrepreneurs. Universities in Bangladesh are turning out an increasing number of graduates in computer-related subjects who can play contributory roles in the IT industry. In the publication, research work, medical science, banking sector, communication, industrial management and other possible sectors of our practical life Information Communication Technology can be used to accelerate overall development.
Impediments to the ICT in Bangladesh :
There are some specific impediments to the development of ICT in Bangladesh. They are —
(a) Poor quality of Science, Math, and English Education is an obstacle to ICT in Bangladesh. High-quality Science and Math education from secondary to higher secondary level is required for ICT education.
(b) Poor quality of education, The quality of Science or IT teachers in our schools, colleges, universities, and other types of formal and non-formal institutions are poor.
(c) Lack of employment demand from the ICT sector the slow growth in IT implementation and a weak domestic Software industry are perhaps the most menacing of all impediments.
(d) Inadequate incentives for IT industry development or lack of incentives from the government are the reasons for the slow taking off in the domestic and export-oriented IT sector.
Steps for the development of ICT in Bangladesh :
The government should take the following steps for the development of ICT in Bangladesh :
(a) The government needs to formulate and implement a dynamic, nationwide education policy that will facilitate human resources development in ICT. The foundations of IT education can be laid at the school level, possibly from class 6. More emphasis needs to go on Science, Math, and English skills.
(b) If we are to expand our domestic IT market and also tap into export-oriented software opportunities, we need significantly to increase the level of enrollment in both the public and private sectors.
(c) Special plans need to be formulated and associated public funds need to be mobilized for improving IT education facilities at all levels. Special incentives should be given for IT human resource advancement.

(e) Specialized IT education institutes need to be set up under government patronage across the country. All-out structural measures need to be taken to facilitate the rapid development of the domestic and export-oriented IT industry in the country.
If we want to develop our ICT industry, we must implement a coherent coordinated action plan involving both the public and the private sectors. We need to have a clear realistic and long-term vision for IT human resource development and create an accountable system for ensuring standards. We have to go a long way to welcome a golden time.
